Bridge of Weir - About the Area
Bridge of Weir grew on the strength of the cotton mills and tannery industry and the advent of rail travel. The railway brought merchants from Glasgow and their families to the countryside for a better standard of living. Castle Terrace at one time was the main hotel overlooking the railway station. In its time, Castle Terrace has been a hotel, refugee centre, auxiliary hospital, private school, flats and now shops. The tannery still produces fine leather for many industries, including car interiors and airline seats.
