Howwood - About the Area
Howwood in located just off the A737 and has good access to Paisley/Glasgow and Lochwinnoch. The village was formerly known as Hollow-Wood and was the family seat of the Semples, who later moved to Castle Semple in Lochwinnoch. In the 18th century, Howwood's industry was the bleaching and finishing of cotton with the Bowfield Bleaching Works running until the 1960's. The plant was taken over by a leisure company, and is now the site of the Bowfield Country Club.
